SWAN

Silver Ridge Westerly Assisting Neighbors

SWAN: an elegant, quiet, but very powerful bird: the perfect symbol for the volunteer program at Silver Ridge Park Westerly.

SWAN workers bridge the gap for our neighbors at Silver Ridge Park Westerly who need help getting to medical appointments. SWAN services are always free of charge.

Here's how it works:

  1. Ride request: SRP Westerly neighbors needing transportation call our SWAN phone, weekdays between 10 AM and 12:00 noon to request a ride. Other times, callers may leave a message.
  2. Scheduling: Phone volunteers schedule a driver. They also prepare the necessary paperwork.
  3. The Final Step: Drivers confirm the appointment with the passenger.

Our drivers are indemnified and insured by the Ocean County Board of Social Services through the RSVP.

Benefits:

Helping others has been known to reduce stress, increase happiness and produce a sense of purpose.

SWAN not only addressees a real need, but fosters a strong community bond.

The Need:

If you would join our amazing volunteers by giving an hour or two a month or just want to know more about this heartwarming program, call the SWAN desk at 848-223-7588. Leave a message for Barbara Blake, SWAN coordinator. I'd love to tell you all about it.

SWAN is sponsored by the Ocean County Board of Social Services under the Senior and Retired Volunteer Program (RSVP).
